3-Time Super Bowl Champions

Background on the NFL and Super Bowl:

The National Football League is a professional American football league with 32 teams.  Formed in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association, it was the first of several leagues that would eventually form to represent regional and national competitions. In 1966, the NFL reorganized into 13 divisions after expanding from its original 14-team roster. The Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the NFL that is among the biggest sports events in America, watched by millions.

The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based out of Foxborough, Massachusetts, with home field at Gillette Stadium.  Founded in 1959 as the Boston Patriots in the American Football League, they joined the NFL in the AFL-NFL Merger of 1970.  The team initially struggled, not qualifying for the playoffs until 1976 and only making it to the Super Bowl once, losing to the Chicago Bears at Super Bowl XX following the 1985 season.

Following a league realignment after their 2001 championship season, they were moved from the American Football Conference to the National Football Conference.  Since then, they have won five more Super Bowls (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX, XLIX and LI), becoming the only team in NFL history to successfully win five Super Bowl championships (and also the only team to win consecutive championships twice).

Has any team won 3 super bowls in a row

The New England Patriots - their history and how they've managed to win 3 Super Bowls in a row in

The New England Patriots have won five Super Bowls, more than any other franchise in the NFL.  Since 2001 they've made it to eight AFC Championship Games, 13 consecutive seasons with at least 10 wins, nine consecutive seasons with at least 12 wins, and ten consecutive seasons with a first-round bye.  They are the only team in NFL history to win back-to-back championships twice (2002, 2004; 2016, 2018).

The New England Patriots are the only team in NFL history to win three Super Bowls in a row, when they won Super Bowl XXXVI, XXXVIII and XXXIX following the 2003, 2004 and 2005 seasons.  They are also one of two teams to ever appear in five consecutive AFC Championship Games (2011-2015).

The winning streak for the New England Patriots is currently at six championships, with their win in Super Bowl LI following the 2016 season.  They are one of four teams to have won at least six Super Bowls (the Pittsburgh Steelers most recently won 6 Super Bowls with victories in 1975, 78, 79, 80 and 2005; the Green Bay Packers won 5 consecutive championships between 1965-1969; and the Dallas Cowboys won 5 Super Bowls between 1972-1977).  All three of those teams have as many or more NFL Championships than the Patriots' 3, with the Packers having 13 and the Steelers and Cowboys both having 8.

In their historic run from 2001 to now, they've been coached by Bill Belichick following the departure of Pete Carroll following the 1999 season.  Belichick has spent 28 years with the team, first as defensive coordinator under Bill Parcells from 1991-1996.

Starting in 2003, they drafted Tom Brady who has played quarterback for them since then.

During this period of time, the Patriots have won five Super Bowls (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX, XLIX and LI) and have made it back to the big game five times.  They've been in eight AFC Championship Games, 13 consecutive seasons with at least 10 wins, nine consecutive seasons with at least 12 wins, and ten consecutive seasons with a first-round bye.

The New England Patriots have a long history of success, winning three Super Bowls in a row for the only time in their franchise's history.  They've made it to eight AFC Championship Games, 13 consecutive seasons with at least 10 wins, nine consecutive seasons with at least 12 wins, and ten consecutive seasons with a first-round bye.  They are also one of two teams to ever appear in five consecutive AFC Championship Games (2011-2015).
